This detailed guide will empower you to achieve a professional-looking finish in a few simple steps. Whether you’re a seasoned DIY enthusiast or a beginner seeking a project to tackle, this guide will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to elevate your space.

Materials and Tools

Gather the necessary materials and tools for the installation:

Brushed tile trim

Thinset mortar

Notched trowel

Grout

Float

Sponge

Level

Tape measure

Mitre box

Wet saw

Preparation

Before starting the installation, it’s crucial to prepare the surface where the tile trim will be placed. Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. If necessary, patch any holes or cracks to create a smooth and even base. Ensure that the surface is completely dry before applying the tile trim.

Applying the Thinset Mortar

Using the notched trowel, apply a thin layer of thinset mortar to the back of the tile trim. The notches will create small air pockets that will allow the mortar to adhere effectively to both the surface and the tile trim. Hold the trowel at a 45-degree angle and spread the mortar evenly, working in small sections at a time.

Installing the Tile Trim

Carefully place the tile trim onto the prepared surface, aligning it with the tiles. Press the tile trim firmly into the thinset mortar, ensuring that it is level. Use the level to check the alignment and make any necessary adjustments. If necessary, use spacers to ensure even spacing between the tile trim and the tiles.

Grouting

Once the thinset mortar has set, apply grout to the joints between the tile trim and the tiles. Use a float to spread the grout evenly, working in small sections at a time. Remove any excess grout with a sponge. Allow the grout to dry completely before using the area.

Finishing Touches

After the grout has dried, remove any remaining residue or debris with a damp sponge. You can also apply a sealant to protect the tile trim from water and stains. This will help maintain its pristine appearance and extend its lifespan.

Tips for Success

Use a mitre box and wet saw to create precise mitered corners.

Allow ample drying time for the thinset mortar and grout before using the area.

Protect your work area from dust and debris during the installation process.

If you encounter any issues, don’t hesitate to consult a professional for assistance.
