Aluminum tile edging strips provide a clean, finished look to tiled surfaces. They protect the edges of tiles from chipping and cracking, and they can also be used to create decorative accents. Installing aluminum tile edging strips is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the job done right.

Choosing the Right Edging

The first step is to choose the right edging for your project. Aluminum tile edging strips are available in a variety of styles, including:

Flat edging: This type of edging is applied directly to the edge of the tiles. It is the most common type of edging, and it is available in a variety of widths and finishes.

Bullnose edging: This type of edging has a rounded profile that extends over the edge of the tiles. It is more expensive than flat edging, but it provides a more finished look.

Pencil liner: This type of edging is a thin, decorative strip that is applied to the edge of the tiles. It is available in a variety of materials, including aluminum, brass, and stainless steel.

Cutting the Edging

Once you have chosen the edging, you will need to cut it to length. Use a hacksaw or a miter saw to make clean, straight cuts. If you are using bullnose edging, you will need to miter the corners to ensure a smooth transition.

Applying the Edging

The next step is to apply the edging to the tiles. Apply a thin bead of construction adhesive to the back of the edging, and then press it into place. Use a level to make sure the edging is straight, and then use a rubber mallet to tap it into place.

Finishing the Edging

Once the edging is in place, you will need to finish it by caulking the seams. Apply a thin bead of caulk to the joint between the edging and the tiles, and then smooth it out with your finger. Allow the caulk to dry completely before using the shower or bath.

Additional Tips

Use a sharp blade to cut the edging. A dull blade will tear the edging and make it difficult to install.

Wear safety glasses when cutting the edging. The aluminum chips can be sharp and can easily get into your eyes.

Be careful not to overtighten the screws. Overtightening the screws can strip the threads and make it difficult to remove the edging.

Allow the caulk to dry completely before using the shower or bath. This will prevent the caulk from being damaged by the water.
