Trowel

Grout float

Sponge

Grout tape measure

Pencil

Utility knife

Preparation

1. Measure and cut the trim: Measure the length from the edge of the tile to where you will install the trim. Cut the filling to the desired length using a utility knife.

2. Apply tile adhesive: Apply a thin layer of tile adhesive to the back of the trim using a trowel. Make sure the adhesive is evenly distributed.

Installation

1. Position the trim: Carefully position the trim along the edge of the tiles. Use a level to make sure it is level and straight.

2. Press into place: Once positioned, gently press the trim into place. Use moderate pressure to secure it to the adhesive.

3. Remove excess adhesive: Wipe away any excess adhesive that may have escaped using a sponge or damp cloth.

Joints

1. Mix the grout: Mix the grout according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The coulis should have a consistency similar to peanut butter.

2. Apply grout: Fill the space between the trim and the tiles with grout using a grout float. Press the grout into the joints to ensure it is fully compacted.

3. Remove Excess Grout: After letting the grout sit for a few minutes, wipe away the excess grout using a damp sponge. Also clean the grout from the face of the trim.

Finishing Touches

1. Grout Sealant: Allow grout to harden completely according to manufacturer’s instructions. Seal the grout with a sealer to protect it from moisture and stains.

2. Cleaning: Clean any remaining adhesive or grout residue from the trim and surrounding area. Use a soft cloth and a mild cleaning solution.

Tips for Success

Use a sharp knife for clean cuts.

Apply just enough adhesive to hold the cut in place. Too much adhesive can make it difficult to remove the excess.

Allow the adhesive to harden for a few minutes before pressing the trim into place. This will ensure a strong bond.

Seal joints carefully to prevent moisture from getting behind the trim.

Use a soft cloth to wipe away excess grout. Abrasive materials can scratch the surface of the trim.

Seal the grout as soon as it has hardened to protect it from moisture and stains.
